The Environmental Law Consultancy (Pty) Ltd was founded in 1991, with the aim to assist organisations to know and comply with environmental legislation.
Now, nearly 25 years later, a lot has changed. In 2015, we deliver environmental, social and corporate governance (“ESG”) legal compliance and management system services to nearly 200 sites in Southern Africa, for some of the continent’s largest corporations.
Our Standards & Legal Platform hosts online, site-specific up to date (updated daily) legal registers for environmental (ISO 14001-aligned), energy (ISO 50001-aligned), food safety (FSSC ISO 22000-aligned), information management (ISO 27001-aligned), occupational health and safety (OHSAS 18001-aligned) and quality (ISO 9001-aligned) legislation and other legal requirements. More is on the way.
We now do far more than “assist with environmental law”
In order to help prospective and existing clients and partners to easily understand our products and services, we have thus decided to retire our brand “The Environmental Law Consultancy” and incorporate it into the brand “Standards & Legal”, which is a better description of the work that we do.
The Standards & Legal Platform contains over 40,000 legal provisions, over 6,000 of which have been summarised in Plain English and organised using over 2,000 tags (searchable terms).
Nothing will need to change on the procurement side.
The corporate entity through which we trade remains The Environmental Law Consultancy (Pty) Ltd – our other company details such as VAT details and our addresses remain the same – the only change is that we are now trading as Standards & Legal.
Clients using the Standards & Legal Platform will continue to access it through the same URL (http://telc.legalregister.co.za), but will notice a branding change to Standards & Legal. Links from Integrated Risk Assessments will continue to work seamlessly. New clients will be pointed to http://sl.legalregister.co.za, and existing clients can use this too (your access details will work).

Also, Garth (Watson, director and ESG attorney) is now based in Oxford and representing Standards & Legal in the UK. From there he is driving our further research in ESG, which will result in new and improved ESG products and services.
