Managing Director (Technology & Systems)
Peter is a web-based systems specialist adept at using web-based technologies to make organisations run more smoothly and efficiently.
After co-founding a web development company in 2003, and several other web-based technology companies since, Peter now focuses his efforts on building the business and technology products of Standards & Legal. Peter has received several accolades as an entrepreneur and technologist, including being featured on the Old Mutual “Doing Great Things” project (2011), Cape Town IT Initiative’s (CITI) “IT Super Heroes” feature and was profiled in the 2011 Edition of Mail and Guardian’s “200 Young South Africans.”
Peter holds two degrees, a BA (English) from the University of Cape Town and a BTech (Public Relations Management) from the Cape Peninsula University of Technology.
Director, Senior Legal Counsel (Law & Science)
Garth is a South African attorney by profession. He has a wide range of experience in various specialised areas of law, namely environmental, social and corporate governance (ESG). He is passionate about helping corporations and other organisations to optimally manage their ESG concerns in order to decrease risk, increase returns and create value.
Before studying law at the University of Cape Town (UCT), Garth read for a Bachelor of Science with specialisation fields in Environmental and Geographical Science and Ecology (also at UCT). After graduating with his LLB, Garth spent nearly 10 years practicing corporate and commercial law and gained valuable experience in the fields of corporate governance and transactions.
In recent years, and because ESG factors have come into the mainstream, Garth has been able to “marry” his passion and knowledge of environmental and social science with his experience in corporate governance and corporate transactions.
Garth is now based in Oxford, as Standards & Legal’s ambassador to the United Kingdom. He is also involved in the continued development of the Standards & Legal Platform from an ESG perspective, focusing on how it will continue to become more and more beneficial for companies, funds and underwriters to know and meet their ESG obligations.
Senior Associate (Systems & Law)
Lynn originally trained in finance and later worked as a personal assistant to a General Manager as well as a Safety, Health and Environment Officer. As a result she has developed a deep interest and gained substantial experience in occupational health and safety as well as environmental management systems and processes.
Lynn has completed a wide range of auditing and legal qualifications in the field of occupational health and safety and environmental management systems. She has gained extensive on-the-job experience, having completed hundreds of hours of management system and legal compliance auditing and training.
At Standards and Legal, Lynn assists with the implementation of integrated environmental, occupational health and safety and quality management systems (aligned to the ISO and OHSAS management system standards), and conducts audits of those systems.
Lynn also conducts legal compliance audits and assists with the integration of operational risk assessments with the applicable legal themes and legal obligations.
Senior Associate (Science & Law)
Emily obtained her BSc (Zoology and Geography and Environmental Studies) in 2000, her BSc Honours (GIS: Analyses and Decision Making) in 2001 and her MSc (Ecological Assessment) in 2003 from the University of Stellenbosch.
She has also completed a number of professional training courses including the Green Building Council of South Africa Professional Accreditation Course, Environmental Impact Assessment Principles and Practice Course (ADH Consulting), and Environmental Professionals Course in Environmental Impact Assessment and Management (CSIR-Enviromentek).
Emily is passionate about sustainability and having worked in various environmental consulting positions both in South Africa and the United Kingdom, she brings local and international experience to Standards & Legal.
Emily also has a unique penchant for interpreting environmental, social and corporate governance (ESG) legal requirements.
Associate, Environmental Attorney (Law)
Henrietta obtained her LLB degree from Wits University in 2008 and her LLM degree (Environmental law) from UCT in 2010. She has completed the Practical Legal Training Course through UCT and having then completed her articles, was admitted in the High Court as an attorney in 2014.
While completing her LLM, Henrietta was employed at the African Centre for Water Research, a consultancy specialising in transboundary water resource management in Africa. She was involved in analysing the legal and institutional framework of states sharing transboundary water resources, as well as gaining experience in the field of environmental management from a national and international legal perspective.
After this, her interest in politics led her to Parliament, where she was exposed to the workings of government, and in particular the Department of Mineral Resources and its portfolio committee, before joining Standards & Legal in 2011.
Since joining our team Henrietta has obtained substantial environmental and occupational health and safety legal compliance auditing experience for large and listed companies operating in South Africa. Henrietta also plays a key role in interpreting the requirements of environmental, social and corporate governance (ESG) legal obligations for clients of Standards & Legal.
Personal Assistant and Office Manager
Nicky originates from a customer services based background, spanning over six years, and has held positions in various industries such as Fleet Management, Recruitment, Media, Medical, Export and FMCG. She holds a Diploma in Marketing Management and recently completed an Occupational Health & Safety Management Diploma from the University of Cape Town, via GetSmarter.
In short, Nicky is an “admin guru” with a useful understanding of occupational health and safety to complement the work of Standards & Legal.
Her strengths lie in problem solving, customer relations and seamlessly running the administrative end of Standards & Legal. Nicky manages the office administration and is the personal assistant to the Managing Director.
