Garth is a South African attorney by profession. He has a wide range of experience in various specialised areas of law, namely environmental, social and corporate governance (ESG). He is passionate about helping corporations and other organisations to optimally manage their ESG concerns in order to decrease risk, increase returns and create value.
Before studying law at the University of Cape Town (UCT), Garth read for a Bachelor of Science with specialisation fields in Environmental and Geographical Science and Ecology (also at UCT). After graduating with his LLB, Garth spent nearly 10 years practicing corporate and commercial law and gained valuable experience in the fields of corporate governance and transactions.
In recent years, and because ESG factors have come into the mainstream, Garth has been able to “marry” his passion and knowledge of environmental and social science with his experience in corporate governance and corporate transactions.
Garth is now based in Oxford, as Standards & Legal’s ambassador to the United Kingdom. He is also involved in the continued development of the Standards & Legal Platform from an ESG perspective, focusing on how it will continue to become more and more beneficial for companies, funds and underwriters to know and meet their ESG obligations.
